November 24th at Plan B in Portland,OR was Superbad's record release that coincided with Voetsek and Mind of Asian's US tour. This was probably the most packed I have ever seen Plan B.
This is their full set, so no crappy live photos with the signature blur due to lack of flash. Instead just a picture of Mike looking ready for a money shot. They also killed, as usual.
Bloodstained Dusk is a black metal band from Alabama I believe. Their in between song banter was sort of hilarious as is a lot of black metal banter. They had a song with a kind of Manowar vocal intro that ruled.
I decided to follow LM ton their next show in Medford,OR. Medford is a small-ish city about 30 miles north of the California border. It is a perfect hub between shows in the Bay Area and Portland. Hopefully they will grow and become the place for shows in between the big cities because the people were nice, as well as kooky, but mostly nice.
Also Landmine Marathon played and sounded killer. The video is super dark but the sound is better than the last. They also have a new full length that slays out from Level Plane records and a Relapse exclusive t-shirt.
Before I mention the show I am gonna put a spotlight on the hero of the night, my friend, Stephen the Angry Vegan, who is actually a happy vegan. Its like if someone calls me slim, ya know. With a broken leg and on crutches he climbed a great mountain to attend this show, and when I say mountain, I mean stairs. So below is a picture of the mighty Angry Vegan who conquered the mighty staircase of Rotture, even when physically broken.
This was the first time I had seen or heard Goatsoldiers. I'd known that Cal was in the band so I wanted to check them out. When i say the electric-acoustic bass I did sort of a double take, but it didnt sound bad. These guys had some good songs, I look forward to hearing more in the future.
I can't believe this was the first time I had seen Transient. The frontperson starts the set speaking almost uncomfortably shy and extremely polite, but as soon as the first note hits she basically grinds your fucking face off. Rad band, fucking brutal.
Its always good to see fellow Arizonans in Portland, especially when they rule like these guys. They have the 4 ingredients that make a band worth watching . These ingredients are 1. sweet riffs 2. brutal vocals 3. beards 4. Ryan Butler
I recorded their entire set so i didnt really get live photos, instead I decided to post pictures of them eating veggie hot dogs, which is just as brutal.
Until 11/8/08, I had never been to 924 Gilman. Which is odd since I have been to Bay Area at over a half dozen times in the past couple years. I think I picked the right show to see. This was the final show on Corrupted's US tour and they as well as Asunder, Amber Asylum, and Stormcrow all had great performances.
Its safe to say that at this time i have more Stormcrow footage than anything else. They opened up the show and sounded great as usual, unfortunately you could barely hear the vocals
One of the main reasons I decided to take the 10 hour drive was because Amber Asylum is playing. They have a sound that is so haunting and beautiful that you can become hypnotized by it. Their set was unfortunately cut short but they were able to sneak in one more song. This footage, sound wise is probably some of the best I have taken
This time I only took one short clip because I was standing pretty far away. Corrupted was again outstanding and played nearly 2 hours (if not longer). Lets all hope we dont have to wait another decade or so for them to return.
