How the West was Rocked

Black Hell is hands down my favorite active band in Arizona. It had been 3 years since I had a chance to see them live and after their performance at Jugheads 10/23/09 in Phoenix,AZ, I know I had been missing out. When I had left Arizona they were just starting to mature from the aggressive sounds of the Deformers of the Universe album to a more progressive, often hypnotic yet heavy masterpiece (and one of my favorite records of 09) "How the Rest Was Lost" . Go to Sounds of Battle and Souvenir Collecting and get a copy.

The Black Heart Procession

I hadnt been excited for a show in so long. The last time I saw Black Heart Procession play live was in 2001 when they opened for Fugazi at Celebrity theatre. Since being captivated by their live performance I truly fell in love with their records (especially "2" and "The Spell"). The show being at Rhythm Room in Phoenix was another plus. They sound amazing live and I am quickly falling for their new record "Six" which I strongly urge you to go pick up at your local independent record store.

BHP played well over 90 minutes. I only caught video of one song and took one quick iphone photo because I honestly didnt want to do anything but listen.

ugh

The Mentors are still around. Great Local support from Reverend Doom and Slut Sister as well as the last minute edition of Dysrhthmia made this a fun night. The show took place 10/16/09 at Jugheads in Phoenix,AZ.

I hadnt heard much of this band before, just new they were all instrumental, which I am usually not into. These guys definitely won me over and have a great new record.

First time seeing these guys. Super impressed. Heavy riffs, tough vocals. Glad they are from AZ

Rape rock legends still around telling bad jokes

drunk on straight edge

Touring bands, local bands and militant straight edge. We were put on notice. 10/3/09 at the Phix in Phoenix,AZ.

when I googled this band's name, a Hannah Montana video popped up as the main results. I pray to the imaginary god that they named themselves after that.

THE STRAIGHT EDGE BAND

an Arizona all star lineup of dudes who are still straight edge. militant and preachy, just how sxe should be

amplified spirituality

I had seen Reverend Doom many times in the past before the lineup change, when the immortal Timwie was the frontman. This was my first time seeing them with Jx Brown and former Black Hell front Jarrod. The show was at a busy Hollywood Alley on 9/26/09 in Mesa,AZ.

dirty, loud, down tuned doom/sludge.

Bluesed,Screwed, and Tattooed

Since December of 2002 I have beeen attending Jake LaBotz shows in Phoenix, and everytime I leave satisfied. This was his 4th year in a row doing the Tattoo Across America tour. Everytime he comes through Arizona on these tours he plays for the good and not so good people that fraternize at Incision Tattoo in Glendale,AZ. September 12 2009, Mike and Dave had another great party.

Jake LaBotz is one of my favorite artists. Great storytelling with a soulful and somewhat twangy delivery. Definitely one of a kind. I suggest you buy his albums or go see him when he hits your town. Unfortunately, the video is dark, sorry.
