MDF day 2: Birdflesh, Bolt Thrower, Phobia, General Surgery

Day 2 of the Maryland Death Fest was amazing, and I have video to prove it. I'm sure you know that Bolt Thrower played, and dominated, but Birdflesh and General Surgery held their own and killed.

last time I saw Birdflesh was MDF 05. They were so damn good. This performance was even better.  Definitely one of the main reasons i traveled that far.

This is who we all came to see, and they didnt let us down

was this Leon's last show with Phobia??????

the Doctors delivered another smashing performance. This time with special guest Chris Reifert!

Swedish Invasion pt7: Farewell after Midnight

The last night of the tour we pulled into Olympia to these lofts to find a large room at the top of the stairs filled with grafitti from the 40's and 50's. I had never been to a show in Olympia and thought it wouldnt be that great. I was so wrong about that. The show took place at the Cherry Lofts on 5/14/09 in Olympia,WA.

It was cool to see the Midnight and General Surgery tours intersect with one another. Midnight really got the crowd going and has somme catchy tunes. I finally picked up a record at MDF because they didnt have any at their shows.

Engorged made the crowd erupt. This was their first time in Olympia and I know it wont be their last after this night. New songs kill and Sean rocked out harder than I have ever seen.

Sad that this was the last night of tour. I have really grown fond of them as people which makes their music even more enjoyable. I recommend buying their newest album, as well as their old ones.

Swedish Invasion pt5: give Haight a chance

After having a nice day in the Haight, shopping for records and fanny packs, Ghoul and General Surgery played the DNA Lounge on 5/12/09 in San Francisco,CA

another great set and the last day of their portion of the tour

General Surgery were awesome as well and we even had a return of the nurses. They ended their set with Cremator doing a sing along

Swedish Invasion pt1: debauchery in the desert

General Surgery kicked off their first West Coast tour with a last minute show in a small desert city outside of Los Angeles called Palmdale. This show was full of karate kicks, afros and basketball jerseys. The kids were overly violent and reminiscent of douchebag kids from well over 5 years ago. Palmdale is like the Chechnya of America, 5-10 years behind the times. The show overall was still pretty fun.

Destroyed in Seconds is ex members of Phobia playing a more hardcore style of punk. I think this is only their third or fourth show, but they are already fun to watch.

This is one of the only shows ever that they have played without their bloody scrubs. They sounded great, but I was a little too close to the PA.

This set was all about the Bro with the Fro

the Stench of Grimmmmnesss

Few things in this world smell worse than a WATAIN show, but what they lack in zestfully cleanness is shear brutality. these guys kill live and are the only band I have watched that can pull off the corpse paint without looking like European juggalos. Below are some videos from the show (10/16/08 @ Rotture Portland,OR) that are on the google player for now until youtube stops being a pain and acepts my uploads, so hopefully you guys enjoy! (if you click the google video button you can watch it full screen and check out 15 more minutes of footage)

Musicfest NW: WITCHCRAFT w/ Akimbo and Danava

Friday September 5th, Ash st Saloon hosted another stellar show as part of Musicfest NW featuring Akimbo from Seattle,WA, Danava from Portland,OR and headlined by Swedish classic rockers, WITCHCRAFT.

AKIMBO

Akimbo had a pretty good set, though the crowd didnt seem to get behind them, i would definitely like to see more of them in the future.

i definitely enjoy Danava live more than the recordings i heard. unfortunately the audio isnt very good on the video.

WITCHCRAFT

Witchcraft far exceeded my expectations. My review of their performance can be summed up in one word.
Wow!
Do NOT miss this band!
