I can't believe I got to see Blasphemophager, and even more so I can't believe I hadn't heard Diocletion until that night. I was completely blown away. On 12/2/10 @ Plan B bar along side one PDX's most brutal bands, Weregoat.

Not much to say other than this show had one of the best local lineups I have seen in a while. GodAwfulNoise, Lago, and Impregnator are probably my 3 favorite Phoenix area bands right now. It also doesn't hurt that Intronaut killed as well. The show took place 11/4/10 at Rogue Bar in Scottsdale,AZ.

Fighting boredom and a fever (not the Bieber kind) I finally got to see Mike Bjella's (Black Hell, Wellington, Unruh) semi-solo project gOg. Most noise/drone/etc usually is tiresome to me but he keeps it interesting and luckily short. In the video below all you see is the lights from the various pedals but its almost the entire set. I'd definitely be inclined to see him again. The show took play 10/22/10 @ Am West in Phoenix,AZ.

I took the pilgrimage to Oakland to see the first of what I hope is an annual event. The Tankcrimes Brainsqueeze. Seeing Ghoul play for the umpteenth time as they played new songs and introduced new ghastly characters was the major highlight for me. I'd suggest you head over to TANKCRIMES RECORDS for some great releases.

Originally, Atriarch's tour kickoff was suppose to be at Branx, but was moved to the outdoor patio to Rotture. Beyond the patio you could see the skyline of downtown Portland. Kind off a rad view. If more shows were set up there it would be awesome, if it wasn't about to be freezing cold.

I love Screeching Weasel. As well as a bunch of goofy pop punk bands. It reminds me of being a kid and was the stepping stone for me to heavier independent music. This was the first time I had ever seen this band I first heard 15 years ago (maybe longer?). Ben Weasel's vocals were outstanding and the new band was completely on. The set was about 90 minutes including the encore and it felt like flew by in 15 minutes. The footage is shaky as I was up front rocking out with my friends having the time of my life. This is likely my favorite show this year.

On a 90 degree night, the venue was 130 inside. Drenched in sweat and dehydrated, but it didn't matter. Deviated Instinct finally came to Arizona on 9/8/10 and was well worth the wait.

Ok this is my first post thats relevant to the time I actually shot the video in a long time. Great show to start off with. Violence of Humanity is a Portland grindcore band with members of Abandon and Transient. This show was their kickoff at a little house in SE Portland that was full of veggie dogs, watermelon, and drunk teenagers. This show took place 8/29/10 at the Hobbit Hole in Portland, OR

usually when you see a band that the age of the members are around 14-16 years old, you can expect to hear pop punk, street punk, or even worse, metalcore. Luckily, instead of worshiping the Casualties or As I lay Dying, these kids listen to Engorged and Hirax and the likes. They are definitely young and not so polished, but seeing a 15 year old kid already writing riffs that make your head move is a great sign of things to come. Also brutal teenage female vocals doesn't hurt.

It's taken me a really long time to post anything new, and though I've been to tons of shows, the thought of pulling out the video camera just became a little tiresome after awhile. Which is a shame because of how many great bands I have seen this past year. Hopefully I will get back into gear and put more stuff up, but for now I am posting some video of the final Black Hell show.

This was a bittersweet evening. Excited to see this show, but bummed to lose another great Arizona band. Over the past few years I have spent my nights in dive bars, warehouses, art spaces, etc watching a band that I truly believe was at the top of their genre. Black Hell is hands down my favorite active band in Arizona. It had been 3 years since I had a chance to see them live and after their performance at Jugheads 10/23/09 in Phoenix,AZ, I know I had been missing out. When I had left Arizona they were just starting to mature from the aggressive sounds of the Deformers of the Universe album to a more progressive, often hypnotic yet heavy masterpiece (and one of my favorite records of 09) "How the Rest Was Lost" . I hadnt been excited for a show in so long. The last time I saw Black Heart Procession play live was in 2001 when they opened for Fugazi at Celebrity theatre. Since being captivated by their live performance I truly fell in love with their records (especially "2" and "The Spell"). The show being at Rhythm Room in Phoenix was another plus. They sound amazing live and I am quickly falling for their new record "Six" which I strongly urge you to go pick up at your local independent record store.

I cant believe I'm saying this, but I really like Reno,NV. Or maybe we just ran into awesome people there. We stayed a couple nights with Joe from Contend and were treated so well. Great place to sleep, fed us pancakes, took us to a great vegetarian cafe, took us to the river for swimming. He is an all around great dude and I am personally glad to have met him.

The show took place at a house occupied by women who cleverly call it "the Hen Den". There was no drinking, drugs, homophobia, or sexism allowed, which is nice. The show took place 7/28/09 in Reno,NV with other fun HC bands Contend, Crime Time and Out of Reach.

bummed I didnt get any photos. This was their first show, and they totally ruled. Vegan straight edge HC with dueling female/male vocals. Definitely hope to see them again

We show up to this small town outside of Sacramento called Olivehurst. There isnt much there besides 2 tower markets and scenery reminiscent of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There is even a creek called "Coon Creek" which is a pretty sketchy name in my book. The show was almost a fest, with bands from California, Mexico, and France all in attendance. Kids were all super cool and the Oven as the garage/venue was called certainly lived up to its name. Royal Monsters played with Maladie as well as many others 7/27/09 @ the Oven in Olivehurst,CA.

I hit the road with Royal Monsters, a newer hardcore punk band from Phoenix,AZ. The tour was in support of their debut ep that Newage Records put out.

We showed up early in the morning to Chris' house from 7 Generations in San Juan Capistrano,CA. A gorgeous city near the ocean in Orange County. We ate at a great vegan/vegetarian place called Mother's Market, then headed to Newport Beach and heckled people like immature assholes. We then headed to the show in Murrieta at a place called Vic's Warehouse. In the daytime this warehouse is used for what I believe is an auto glass business. It's always cool to see somewhat support underground music in such a way as to open up his own business to touring bands.

Rarely can an artist go back and forth between comedy and tragedy with such ease and in such an abrubt way. Roger Alan Wade is definitely a part of that rare breed. On 6/2/09 at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix,AZ , Roger Alan Wade came to town with an opening set by Suicide Driver.

On 6/23/09 at Valentine's in Portland,OR i went to see fellow former Phoenician Justin Cory play a solo show under the name Typwrytrs. Justin is probably best known for his longtime 2 man band in Phoenix called Bodhisattva.

TYPWRYTRS

Justin played a great set, the only problem with acoustic music in bars is the music doesnt cover up the sound of people talking. Sorry if the footage isnt the bestt, hope to get more again.

Looking online for some kind of show to attend, I lucked out and noticed the RunnAmuckS were in town with revolving members in the fellow touring acts Superaids and Libyan Hit Squad . All the bands had great performances, even with the low turnout. Show was 6/22/09 at Plan B in Portland,OR.

SUPERAIDS

Superaids reminded me of a lot of the punk bands from West Phoenix area in the 90's. Which I always thought were great.

LIBYAN HIT SQUAD

These guys went from old school hardcore influence to a jazzy fusion.

RUNNAMUCKS

Great set and a fun band to watch. The Marvel comics artwork on their shirts and albums made the nerd in me extra happy

ABANDON

Though they sound better at this venue, I like these guys more at a house show atmosphere. Great set.

SALTED CITY

I was tired and planned on leaving, but I am glad I stayed to watch these guys.
